BURLINGTON, Vt. – Senior wing Joya Clark (Scotia, N.Y.) scored three tries in the first half to help the Norwich University women's rugby team race out to a 50-0 lead at halftime en route to a 60-27 win over the University of Vermont on Saturday in Northeast Women's Collegiate Rugby Conference (NWCRC) action.
Norwich (5-0, 3-0 NWCRC) pulled nearly all of its starters after the first 40 minutes and then played the second half with mainly B-side players as UVM outscored the Cadets 27-10 in the second half.
Junior #8 Vanessa Champagne (St. Nazaire, Quebec), junior flanker Sophie Mundell (Fairbanks, Alaska), and sophomore flyhalf Hannah Bell (Newberg, Ore.) each scored twice as well for the Cadets in the victory. Senior fullback Rose Bernheim (Mountain Home AFB, Idaho) and freshman Danielle Richards (Westbrook, Maine) each scored a try to round out Norwich's scoring.
Bell had one successful conversion and converted a penalty kick as well for Norwich. The Cadets return home to the NU Rugby Pitch next Saturday to take on American International College (AIC) at 11 a.m. in NWCRC action.
