Box Score STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's (6-1-0, 2-0-0 GNAC)
blanked Norwich University (0-7-0, 0-2-0 GNAC), 2-0, in a GNAC
women's soccer match at Westerlea Way Field on Saturday
afternoon.
Senior forward Lauren Chouinard (Gorham, Maine) opened the
scoring with her fourth goal of the season just 7:11 after the
opening whistle. Junior Sam Peters (Gorham, Maine) took advantage
of a broken clear attempt by the Cadets and dealt a nice lead pass
to Chouinard, who outmuscled a pair of defenders and lofted a kick
from the right over the head of Norwich keeper Allison Hull
(South Royalton, Vt.) into the left corner of the net.
Not to be outdone, junior forward Danielle Daigle (Dayton,
Maine) proceeded to net her fourth marker of the year early in the
second stanza. Sophomore Megen Pollini (Wolfeboro, N.H.) placed a
bouncing lead pass into the box where Daigle claimed control with a
head tap to her foot and steered a kick into the right side of the
net with 35:38 left in the contest.
Saint Joseph's held a commanding 20-1 advantage in shots
while Norwich posted a slight 2-1 lead in corner kicks in the
conference contest. Monks senior netminder Jaci Lorenzen (Windham,
Maine) went untested in her fifth goose-egg effort of the young
season.
With the triumph, Saint Joseph's improves to 4-2-2 in the
history of the series with Norwich University. The Monks trumped
the Cadets by the same 2-0 score in Northfield, Vermont last
fall.
Saint Joseph's returns to the pitch next Saturday when the
Monks play host to GNAC-rival University of Saint Joseph at 2:30
PM. Norwich plays at Johnson & Wales University on Saturday in
a conference-contest slated to start at 3:30 PM.
