STONINGTON, Conn. – For 30 minutes the Norwich University men's rugby team fought toe-to-toe with rival Coast Guard on Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Rugby Conference (NECRC) action.
The Cadets (1-5 overall, 1-4 NECRC) were tied 14-14 with the Coast Guard after tries scored by Cody Dingman (Londonderry, N.H.) in the 20th minute and Andrew Guldin (Waterford, N.J) in the 30th minute with successful conversions both times from Cullen Mahar (McKinney, Texas).
However, Coast Guard took a 17-14 lead on a penalty kick and then added two more tries and conversions before halftime to take a 31-14 lead after 40 minutes.
Coast Guard added 22 more unanswered points in the second half to secure their fourth straight victory over Norwich.
The Coast Guard also won the B-side match 12-5 over Norwich.
Norwich returns home to the NU Dog River Rugby Pitch to host Tufts at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19 in its regular season finale.
