Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn.—Despite a 37-point performance from sophomore Aliah Curry (Windsor, Mass.), the Norwich University women's basketball team fell 75-73 to the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Cadets fall to 8-13 overall and 2-6 in GNAC action, while the win boosts the Falcons to 15-3 on the season and 5-2 in league play.
The Falcons were powered by a career-high 46 points by Lianna Carrero. Carrero, who shot 16-of-25 from the field, tallied 27 second-half points to lead Albertus. She was also 3-of-3 from behind the arc and hit 11-of-14 from the free-throw line, which proved to be a key factor in the win as she went 5-of-6 from the line in the final two minutes of the contest.
The Falcons also saw 15 points from Annie Sutila and six points, eight rebounds from Nicole Acerra. Annie Raucci notched a game-high 10 rebounds for the Falcons.
Curry's 37 points match her career-high, which she set against Rivier University on January 19. She shot 10-for-22 from the floor, including a game-best six three point baskets and an 11-15 effort at the free-throw line.
Norwich's Kristin Brown (Williamstown, Vt.) added 11 points and six assists, while Erin Clark (Newbury, Vt.) and Kristine Brammer (Littleton, N.H.) both added six rebounds apiece.
The Falcons shot 41.4% from the floor in the opening half en route to a 33-26 lead at the break. Both Carrero and Norwich's Aliah Curry led all scorers in the frame with 19 points. Norwich was able to keep the game close in the first half as the Cadets hit five 3-pointers in 14 attempts.
Norwich came out of the break outscoring the Falcons 8-3 to cut the Albertus lead to two at 36-34 two minutes into the second half. Albertus bounced back and extended its lead to as much as 10 as Sutila knocked in a three to give the Falcons a 61-51 lead with 7:59 to go.
The Cadets return to action on Wednesday, January 30 when they host league-leading Emmanuel (Mass.) in GNAC action at 7:00 p.m.
