Box Score 2 WEST HARTFORD, Conn.—The Norwich University volleyball team finished 1-1 in conference double-feature action on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-1 to Johnson & Wales University before downing the University of Saint Joseph (CT) 3-0. With today's results, the Cadets improve to 6-4 overall and 2-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.
The Cadets recorded game scores of 25-13, 25-18, and 25-14 in the nightcap to clinch the win against St. Joseph.
Leading the way for the Norwich was Gabrielle Miller (Grove City, Ohio) with nine kills, a team-high 19 assists, and 11 digs. Corinne Baita (Rochester, N.H.) added six kills and seven digs, while Tara Lyons (Pocasett, Mass.) added five kills.
St. Joseph was led by Samantha Edwon with seven kills. Megan Williams dished out 15 assists, while Ciara Perez posted a team-high 10 digs.
Norwich recorded a .211 attack percentage in the win while holding St. Joseph to a negative attack percentage.
In the opener, Johnson & Wales took a 2-0 lead by posting game scores of 25-16 and 25-12. Norwich would close the gap to 2-1 with a 25-20 win in game three, but Johnson & Wales clinched the victory with a 25-17 win in the final game.
MaryRose Meany (Goshen, N.Y.) led the Cadets with six kills in the loss, while Haley Vermes (Westborough, Mass.), Baita and Lyons added four kills apiece. Miller led the Cadets with 19 assists, while Vermes led the team in digs with 16.
Johnson & Wales was led by Courtney Wright and Karlie Haack, who both totaled a match-high 13 kills. Kellen Tensen totaled 23 assists for Johnson & Wales, while Giselle Cram-Ortiz recorded a match-high 26 digs.
Johnson & Wales recorded a .286 attack percentage in the match, while Norwich hit at a .080 percentage.
The Cadets return to action on Monday when they travel to Colchester, Vt. for an in-state matchup against Saint Michael's College. Match time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
