Box Score BOSTON - The Norwich men's soccer team fell behind less than five minutes into Wednesday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup against Lasell and never recovered as the Lasers were clicking on all cylinders en route to a 5-1 win over the Cadets.
Senior co-captain Colin Pope (Tunbridge, Vt.) scored the lone Norwich goal in the 67th minute to briefly cut into Lasell's lead and make it 3-1. However, the Lasers knocked two more goals past sophomore goalkeeper Christian Hallstrom (Las Vegas, Nev.) to cap the scoring on the day.
Norwich (4-3, 2-1 GNAC) dropped its first league match of the season after starting the year with wins over Rivier and Suffolk. Lasell improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in GNAC play. The Lasers got revenge on Norwich after the Cadets knocked out Lasell with a dramatic 3-2 overtime victory in last year's GNAC Tournament Quarterfinals.
The Cadets return home to Howard Field this weekend with matches on both Saturday and Sunday. NU hosts Anna Maria at 3 p.m. on Saturday in another GNAC contest before turning around less than 24 hours to take on Johnson State in a non-conference tilt slated to start at 1 p.m. The Johnson State/Norwich match will be video streamed live on www.nsnsports.net/norwich.
