Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Norwich University couldn't overcome a quick start from host Plattsburgh State during a 14-3 non-conference loss March 21.
The Cadets, slipping to 1-3, did manage to pressure the Cardinals' defense. The underclassman trio of sophomore attacker Ian Thomas (Barrington, R.I.), sophomore midfielder Ian Mendoza (Mount Airy, Md.) and sophomore midfielder Patrick Tommins (Fairfield, Conn.) each powered a goal past PSU's keeper. Tommins kept his lead at the top of the team's season statistical chart with his seventh score of the season.
Plattsburgh State (5-2) bolted out to a 6-0 halftime lead behind a 23-8 shots on goal advantage over the first two frames. The Cardinals built it to 9-0 before Tommins took a pass from freshman attacker Seth Fuller (Wheaton, Ill.) with just over six minutes to go in the third quarter to score the Cadets' first goal.
Coach Neal Anderson's season-opening eight-game road trip continues Saturday, March 24, with its 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference opener at Lasell. Faceoff is set for 2 p.m.
