Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt.—The Norwich University women's basketball team opened with a 24-2 run in the first 13 minutes of the game en route to a 68-41 win against Johnson State University on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at Andrews Hall.
With the win, the Cadets improve to 3-0 on the season, while the loss drops the visiting Badgers to 1-3 overall.
The Cadets shot for 45.5 percent from the floor in the first half while holding the Badgers to 16 percent shooting to lead 37-14 at the end of the first half. A jumper by Lourdes Perry (Williamstown, Vt.) with 1:44 to play in the half would give the Cadets their biggest lead of the half at 26 points.
The Badgers opened the second half with a 7-2 run and would cut the Cadets' lead to 16 with 14:50 left to play, but Norwich would not let the Badgers get closer, holding a 20-plus point advantage for the remainder of the second half.
The Cadets connected on just nine field goals in 45 attempts in the second half, but hit 92.9 percent of their 14 free-throw attempts to total 31 second-half points. The Badgers improved to shoot 28.6 percent from the floor in the second half.
A pair of made free-throws by Kristin Brown (Williamstown, Vt.) with 4:19 remaining would give the Cadets a 28 point advantage, and a three-point basket by Erin Clark (Newbury, Vt.) with under a minute to play extended the advantage to 31.
The Cadets were led offensively by Aliah Curry (Windsor, Mass.) and Kelsey Lotti (South Yarmouth, Mass.), who both totaled a team-high 11 points. Jessalyn Sweeney (Stanfordville, N.Y.) added seven points, while Brown, Kristine Brammer (Littleton, N.H.) and Clark all added six points each. Sweeney led the Cadets on the boards, totaling a game-high 11 rebounds.
For the Badgers, Mary Richardson posted a game-high 21 points on 8-21 shooting from the floor and 3-4 shooting from the free-throw line. She also added a team-best six rebounds. Brittany Robertson added 10 points for Johnson State.
Norwich returns to action on Tuesday, when it hosts Colby-Sawyer College at 5:30 p.m. in non-conference action at Andrews Hall.
