Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt.—Senior MaryRose Meany (Goshen, N.Y.) totaled nine kills to lead the Norwich University Cadets to a 3-0 win against the Hornets of Lyndon State College on Tuesday evening in non-conference action. With the win, the Cadets improve to 8-10 overall, while the loss drops the visiting Hornets to 6-16.
After posting 25-14 and 25-16 wins in games one and two, senior Gabrielle Miller (Grove City, Ohio) opened the third game by serving ten-straight points to take an early 10-1 lead. Junior Jennette Chartrand (Postenkill, N.Y.) followed by serving four-straight points of her own to give the Cadets the solid 16-2 lead en route to the 25-8 win.
In addition to Meany, the Norwich offensive was led by sophomore Kelsey Mancini (Lynnfield, Mass.), who totaled six kills, and senior Haley Vermes (Westborough, Mass.) and freshman Tara Lyons (Pocasset, Mass.), who contributed four kills apiece. Miller recorded match-highs in assists with 18 and service aces with six, while sophomore Alex Palmer (South Windsor, Conn.) posted a team-best six digs.
The Hornets offense was sparked by Taylor Young's three kills. Morgan Diltz posted a match-high seven digs for Lyndon State, while Laura Drake totaled four service aces and posted team-high five assists.
Norwich totaled 28 kills in the win and posted a .221 attack percentage while holding the visiting Hornets to just nine kills and a negative attack percentage.
Norwich University is idle until Monday, Oct. 15 when they host Mt. Ida College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action for the final regular-season home game. The Cadets will honor seniors Meany, Miller and Vermes in a small ceremony prior to the game.
