Box Score BOSTON – Senior forward Brittany Casey (Pointe-Claire, Quebec) led a furious late comeback, scoring two goals and assisting on another all within a span of 1:05, but the Norwich University women's soccer team couldn't overcome a four-goal deficit, falling to Simmons College 5-4 on Wednesday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.
Casey also scored a goal earlier in the second half to account for the hat trick and bring her career goal total to 58, just one shy of tying the program record of 59 set by Maureen Curran '93. With her seven points Wednesday night, Casey moved into sole possession of second place on the all-time points list, surpassing Megan Curran's '98 total of 137 points. Casey has 140 career points now, trailing only Maureen Curran's program-record 148 points.
Fellow senior Bianca Bogda (Cranston, R.I.) scored the other Norwich goal in the 84th minute, sandwiched between two of Casey's tallies which came at the 83:03 and 84:08 mark of the second half.
Simmons (9-7-0, 7-4-0 GNAC) led 2-0 at halftime after first half goals were scored by Kristyn Heuslein and Justine Beauchamp in the fourth and 40th minute respectively.
Casey got Norwich (5-8-2, 3-6-2 GNAC) on the board with an unassisted goal in the 48th minute. However, Simmons scored three unanswered goals by the 69th minute to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Heuslein and Beauahamp each scored again while Meredith Riker added a tally as well for the Sharks.
Junior goalkeeper Liz Chapdelaine (Somerset, Mass.) made seven saves for Norwich in the losss. Amber Verill picked up the win for Simmons after playing the first 46 minutes of the match and making three saves.
Norwich returns home to Howard Field on Saturday for its GNAC finale of 2012 by hosting Johnson & Wales at 3 p.m. The match will also serve as Senior Day and the Cadets will honor their four seniors Brittany Casey, Bianca Bogda, Erin Roper and Courtney Parisot.
