Box Score BOSTON – For the second straight week, the Norwich University men's soccer team couldn't hold on to a 1-0 lead as the Cadets were victimized by two second half goals, falling to Emerson 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.
Junior forward Anthony Amell (Northfield, Vt.) scored in the 33rd minute to put Norwich (8-5-1, 4-3-1 GNAC) on top off an assist from junior center back Wesley Keslin (Brossard, Quebec). The goal was Amell's fifth of the season and tied him for the team lead with classmate Joe Young (McLean, Va.).
However, that was all the Cadets' offense could muster and Emerson rallied back with two second half goals coming in the 51st and 69th minutes from Jon Havens and Jacob Lawrence to steal the three points. NU led 1-0 last week against St. Joseph's (Maine) before giving up a late second half goal and then another in overtime.
Emerson outshot Norwich 8-7 and had six corner kicks to the Cadets' three. Sophomore goalkeeper Greg Payne (State College, Pa.) gave up two goals on three shots on goal to lose his second straight. Emerson's Carter Bowers made four saves for the Lions.
The Cadets are now 1-2-1 in their last four conference games and return home to Howard Field to close out the regular season by facing Mount Ida on Wednesday at 3 p.m. and then Johnson & Wales on Saturday as part of a doubleheader with the women's soccer team that will also serve as the Senior Day for both squads.
