Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich Cadets
(4-3-0, 2-1-0 GNAC) battled it out on Howard Field with Castleton
State College (4-2), falling short to the Spartans, 4-1 on
Tuesday.
The game was evenly matched in the first half, as back-to-back
goals were scored to keep the game tied 1-all. Spartans'
junior Courtney Chadburn opened the scoring,
converting a pass from classmate Hilary Cooke.
Cadets' sophomore Brittany Casey took the
reins on the very next play, finding junior Nora
Osinski for the tying goal. Castleton took the lead back
in the 23rd minute when sophomore Sarah
Ethier found Cooke, to give the Spartans
the 2-1 lead.
While the Cadets worked for ten shots on goal each half, the
struggle was finding the back of the net past Spartans'
sophomore goalkeeper Ericka Davis. Castleton
pulled away from Norwich in the second frame, as
Chadburn set Cooke up with her
second goal of the contest and sophomore Megan
Blongy in turn found Chadburn in position
for the fourth and final goal.
Senior Alecia Wright made six saves for the
Cadets, while Castleton's Davis set aside
five.
Norwich returns to action on Saturday as both the men and
women's soccer teams host Johnson and Wales for a
doubleheader event at Howard Field. The women follow up the
men's action at 3:30 p.m.
