Weston, Mass. – The Norwich University
volleyball team got past Lesley University, 3-1, before blanking
Regis College, 3-0, in doubleheader action on Saturday.
In the first match the Cadets (4-2) dropped the first set to
Lesley by a score of 25-11, before reeling off three straight set
wins to claim the victory. The scores of those sets were 25-9,
25-12 and 25-18.
Junior April Byllaardt and senior Thea Evans had nine and eight
kills, respectively, to pace NU. Byllaardt added three blocks,
while Evans added eight digs, three service aces and two
blocks.
Senior Molly Rice had 23 assists, five service aces and two
blocks, while junior Ivana Batur added four blocks, six digs and
three service aces.
In the second match Norwich was able to defeat Regis College
handily in the first two sets, 25-11 and 25-16, before winning the
third set by only three points, 25-22.
Byllaardt again led the Cadets, this time registering 10 kills,
five service aces and six digs.
Junior Brittany Palmer had seven kills, two service aces and
five digs, while Rice posted 22 assists, four service aces and five
digs.
NU's next test will come when it hosts rival Middlebury on
Wednesday, Sept. 15, at Andrews Gym. The match is set to begin at 7
p.m.
