NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Norwich University
sophomore men's tennis player Collin Hyte was selected as the
Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) “Player of the
Week” for the first time this season, it was announced by the
league office on Tuesday.
Hyte, who is 8-0 in singles play this spring at the No. 1 spot,
went 3-0 in singles matches last week. He defeated opponents from
Lyndon State, Suffolk and Albertus Magnus in singles action. He
beat Suffolk's Diego Alvarado in a super tiebreaker to
account for Norwich's only point in the Cadets' 8-1
loss to the Rams on Saturday.
A native of Marblehead, Mass., Hyte helped lead the Cadets (6-3,
1-3 GNAC) to a pair of victories during the week. Hyte also went
2-1 in doubles action, picking up doubles victories against Lyndon
State and Albertus Magnus. Hyte and Fritz Kaelber have authored an
impressive 6-1 record when paired together at first doubles.
Kaelber, who went 2-0 at No. 2 singles and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles,
was named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll.
The Cadets wrap up their regular season schedule on Tuesday,
April 20, when they travel to Lyndonville, Vt., to battle Lyndon
State at 3:30 p.m. Norwich will begin its quest toward a GNAC
Tournament title on Thursday, April 22, when the fourth-seeded
Cadets take on top-seeded Suffolk in semifinal contest in Boston at
3 p.m.
