BOSTON, Mass. - The Norwich volleyball team
split the outcomes of their final two matches of the 2010 regular
season schedule. In their first meeting with Emmanuel, the Cadets
lost 3-0, but came back in game two of the afternoon against
Suffolk to win 3-1.
In the first match of the night, the lady Cadets lost in three
sets by scores of 25-23, 25-14, and 25-20. Leading Norwich on the
court, senior Molly Rice earned 18 assists and six digs. The
juniors covered the rest of the lead statistical spots, as Ivana
Batur recorded seven kills and six digs, Brittany Palmer added in
another 13 digs, and April Byllaardt came up with four blocks.
In round two and Norwich's second match of the afternoon, the
Cadets came back from a 21-25 first set loss and won the following
three sets 25-22, 25-20, and 25-13. Norwich clearly tired out the
opposing Suffolk Rams, as Rice accumulated 30 assists, 10 digs and
four service aces. Senior classmate Thea Evans earned 15 kills, as
Byllaardt contributed with nine kills. Palmer counted 12 digs and
received help from freshman Jennette Chartrand who ammassed 13
digs. Rounding out the Cadets defensive pressure, Batur finished
the night with eleven digs and five blocks against the Rams.
Norwich wrapped up the regular season schedule with a 20-10
overall record, 7-5 in the GNAC, giving them a sixth place finish
within the conference and a spot at the quarterfinals this Tuesday.
The time of the match and the opponent is still to be
determined.
