Box Score 2 NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Cadets volleyball
squad started their three-match weekend in high fashion early
Saturday afternoon, sweeping Albertus Magnus 3-0, by dominant
scores 25-12, 25-17, 25-8 at Andrews Hall.
Leading the Cadets (11-5, 2-0 GNAC) in their early success,
senior Thea Evans recorded 14 kills, as junior
Ivana Batur and junior April
Ballyaardt contributed an addition eight points. Senior
Molly Rice assisted with 23 sets, as freshman Jennette
Chartrand earned six digs to
Batur's seven. Ballyaardt
served five aces against the Falcons (0-5, 0-8 GNAC).
Coming into
Saturday's second match, Norwich hadn't taken a set
from Rivier College in five years.
The Cadets fought
valiantly, but in the end, they lost a heartbreaker in five sets to
the Falcons.
Rivier downed Norwich by
scores of 21-25, 25-13, 21-25, 25-23, and 15-13.
The Cadets couldn't
contain Rivier sophomore outside hitter Kenna Finlayson who
dominated the stat sheet with 29 kills to lead the
Falcons.
Junior Lauren Saccoccio had 45
assists while junior Emileigh Cenedella chipped
in 23 digs as well for Rivier who improved to 9-8 overall and
remained unbeaten in GNAC play with a 3-0 record.
The Cadets (11-6, 2-1
GNAC) were led by senior Thea Evans' 13 kills
and 18 digs. Molly
Rice had 24 assists and 11 digs while Ivana Batur chipped in 20
digs and seven blocks. April Byllaardt rounded
out Norwich's stat leaders with nine kills and three service
aces.
Norwich continues its
home stand on Sunday when the Cadets host Maine Maritime at 11 a.m.
in a non-conference match.
