Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich Cadets
hosted Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday as a part
of the University's “Family Weekend” festivities.
As the fall weather reaches its peak, the rainfall subsided enough
to allow the GNAC action to commence on Howard Field, as the Cadets
battled to a 2-0 victory over the Monks.
Sophomore Mike Ravenelle was a key contributor
to the Cadets scoreboard. In the 16th minute of action,
he took an indirect kick from Norwich's half of the field,
placing a 60-yard ball to classmate Garrett
Shufelt who was in a position to capitalize on the play.
With less than a minute remaining on the clock in the first half,
Ravenelle then tallied a goal of his own, marking
his first goal of the season and putting the Monks at the 2-goal
deficit they would face the rest of the game.
The Monks (6-7-2, 3-3-1 GNAC) outshot the Cadets (8-5-2, 5-2-0
GNAC) in the second half, but were unable to get passed the Norwich
defense and freshman goalkeeper Alex Toomey.
In net for the Monks, junior Nick Campasano set
aside six shots on goal, while Toomey shut down the 17 scoring
efforts by Saint Joseph's with his three key saves.
Norwich men's soccer will hit the road for the final time
in the 2010 regular season schedule, taking off to Lasell College.
The time of the game is yet to be determined.
