NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Castleton State swept a non-league baseball doubleheader from Norwich on Tuesday afternoon at Garrity Field. The Spartans took the opener 10-1, before pounding the Cadets 18-1 in the nightcap.

The first game was close for the first six innings, with Castleton holding a 3-1 lead as the game entered the seventh. The Spartans pushed across seven runs in that frame, though, to account for the final margin.

Billy Manley paced the Castleton attack at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored. Matt Eisenhuth was 3-for-3 with two doubles, one RBI and two runs scored. Garrett Bissonnette and Mitch Thresher each drove in two runs apiece for the Spartans

The run support was more than enough for CSC starting pitcher Brandon Fay (1-1), who pitched a complete game five-hitter. Fay struck out 10 batters in the contest without allowing a walk. The lone run that he yielded was unearned.

Donovan Brown went 2-for-3 with a double to lead Norwich in the opener. Ian Caird (0-4) pitched reasonably well until running into trouble in the seventh inning. He went 6.1 innings and gave up seven earned runs on 14 hits. He recorded three strikeouts.

Castleton (13-10) took control of the nightcap early, plating eight runs in the second inning. Manley blasted a pair of home runs during the inning, which was aided by a pair of Norwich fielding errors.

The Spartans led 9-1 before adding five runs in the sixth inning and four more in the seventh.

Manley finished the game 5-for-5 with three runs batted in and three runs scored. Jack Lancelin went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and one run scored, while Chris Albert was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI.

Matthew Tuthill (2-2) got the victory on the hill for the Spartans after allowing just four hits over 5.0 innings.

Alexandro Cardoza (0-2) took the loss for the Cadets after giving up eight runs in 2.0 innings.

Bret Manning went 2-for-4 with an RBI to pace Norwich at the plate.

Norwich (0-23-1) will continue its homestand on Wednesday, April 15, when the Cadets host in-state rival St. Michael's College at 3 p.m.
