NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University
baseball team was swept in a non-league doubleheader by
in-state rival Lyndon State College on Thursday afternoon at
Garrity Field. The Hornets won game one, 9-3, before taking an 11-2
decision in the nightcap.
Norwich (4-24) led the opener, 3-0, after three innings, but
Lyndon scored in each of its final four at-bats, including five
runs in the seventh inning to come from behind for the win.
Jim Kiritsy paced the Cadets offense in game one, going 3-for-4
at the plate. Rob Knox went 2-for-4 with a triple, while Dustin
Fleming went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in.
Ian Caird threw four solid innings in game one, allowing just
one earned run on three hits.
Lyndon State jumped all over Norwich in the nightcap, scoring
three runs in the first inning and leading 5-1 after three frames.
The Hornets limited the Cadets to just four hits in the contest.
Dominic Sorrentino led the NU attack with two hits and two runs
scored.
Norwich wraps up its 2008 spring schedule on Friday, May 2, when
the Cadets host Vermont Technical College at 4 p.m.
