Box Score 2 CASTLETON, Vt. - The Norwich University
baseball team was swept by Castleton State in a non-league
doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. The Cadets dropped the opener
5-2, before bowing 10-2 in the nightcap.
Will LaRose pitched Castleton State to the win in the first
game, allowing just two earned runs on five hits in a complete game
effort.
The Spartans led 1-0 after the first inning, and tacked on two
more runs in the third inning
to take a 3-0 lead.
Norwich (2-18) closed the gap to 3-1 in the fifth inning as Tim
O'Connor doubled and scored on Brian Segit's RBI single.
Castleton State extended its lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the
fifth.
Norwich grabbed another run in the top of the seventh, but Greg
Pawluk was thrown out at second trying to stretch his run scoring
single into a double to end the game.
Norwich starter, Rob Knox took the loss, allowing one run over
two innings. Knox allowed two hits and walked three.
Segit led the Norwich offense, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
In the nightcap, Jeremy Gilcris struck out 10 Cadets in six
innings of work to earn the win. Gilcris allowed four hits and two
earned runs while walking one.
Castleton put together a three-run first inning, a four-run
second and a three-run fourth to take the win.
Norwich's Kyle Przekaza was 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI and one
run scored to lead the Cadets in game two.
Norwich resumes its GNAC slate on Friday, April 18, when the
Cadets play St. Joseph's (Maine) in a doubleheader.
