NEWTON, Mass. - Senior forward Drew Dilley
scored two goals, and junior goalkeeper Charles Maxwell posted his
second consecutive shutout as the Norwich University men's soccer
team beat Lasell, 3-0, on Wednesday afternoon.
Junior forward Jake Yaris added a goal, and senior forward Ryan
Boyton chipped in a pair of assists for the Cadets (9-0-1, 3-0-1
GNAC), who vault into first place in the GNAC standings with the
victory. The Lasers, who entered the game atop the conference
standings, fall to 4-5 (3-1 GNAC).
Maxwell, the reigning GNAC "Goalkeeper of the Week", was perfect
in the Cadets' goal throughout the contest, turning aside all eight
shots that he faced en route to posting his third shutout of the
season.
Norwich got on the scoreboard in the seventh minute when Dilley
took a feed from Boyton and scored at the 6:22 mark.
Lasell outshot Norwich, 16-8, in the first half, but the Lasers
were held scoreless as Maxwell made six first-half saves.
The Cadets doubled their lead in the 63rd minute as Yaris netted
his goal off an assist from junior midfielder Roger Motaze at the
62:24 mark. Dilley added an insurance tally in the 90th minute when
he took a pass from Boyton and scored with 11 seconds remaining in
the contest.
Norwich returns home to the friendly confines of Howard Field
for the first time in two weeks on Saturday, Oct. 4, when the
Cadets host GNAC foe Suffolk at 1 p.m.
